Play the Masters

Grandmaster Stephen Gordon
My colleagues at Leeds chess club have obviously been bitten by the “simultaneous” bug! I reported here last week about my feeble efforts against GM Danny Gormally at their August event. Since then the club have organised a further three (!) simultaneous events against a range of titled players.

  • On Sunday the 26th of September Grandmaster Stephen Gordon (currently 8th on the ECF grading list!) will be playing.
  • Then on Sunday the 7th of November it is FIDE Master Charlie Storey’s turn to take on all-comers.
  • Finally, Grandmaster Nigel Davies will come to the club on Sunday the 28th of November.

All of the above events start at 2.30pm and cost £10 to enter. The number of places is limited (to around 30 entrants) for each event but the organiser has asked me to throw out an open invitation to Hebden Bridge players. If you haven’t taken part in a simultaneous before then I can tell you that it is great fun and will give you a serious opportunity to test your skills against the very best. If you would like to take part in any of the events mentioned above please e-mail your interest to tony@leedschessclub.org.
