The game begins again

The Calderdale League begins on Monday the 20th of September with both Divisions in action for the first round of fixtures.

In Division 1 the title holders, Hebden Bridge A, will begin their title defence away at Halifax A whilst the B team will begin their season at Courier A.

Meanwhile in Division 2 Hebden Bridge C will start their season hosting one of the two new teams in the league this year, Todmorden B. The D team begin their season a few days later on the 23rd of September away to the other new outfit, Huddersfield B.

Both Divisions have increased in size by one team this season due to the new arrivals in Division 2 and this is welcome news. League 1 certainly promises plenty of interesting action as Huddersfield A will surely mount a strong challenge to our own A team this season in a bid to win back the title that they lost in April. The first clash between the title rivals is scheduled for the 1st of November at the Trades Club. Both fixtures between the two were tied last season so a positive result for either team could prove to be crucial to the outcome of the title race this year. The return match at Huddersfield is on the 10th of March.

Division 2 looks very open to my unqualified eye although I’d suspect that Huddersfield B will turn out to be strong contenders for promotion if they can field a team of the same sort of strength they were able to a few seasons ago when they won the Division and subsequently performed very creditably in the top flight before disappearing altogether last season.

Of course HBCC members and regular visitors to this site will be able to keep tabs on the performance of all our teams as the season progresses. I plan to publish match reports from the team captains alongside the regular articles from the Hebden Bridge Times. We will also be making a concerted effort to collect as many games as we can from home and away fixtures so that we can bring you the most interesting and critical contests during the course of the season. You will notice that I have added a new ‘tab’ to the main menu bar at the top of this page named “League Fixtures 2010-11”. On this page you will find all of the fixture dates for our teams during the coming season.

Let battle commence!

Yes, the cup game will be fun with the handicap system. I think I'm playing for the A's on Monday though so it's a last "Hurrah" for the 2009-10 team :)
